Dry cleaning your curtains with a clothes steamer: simple and effective!
Dry cleaning curtains is a quick and effective way to remove creases and reduce dust and unpleasant odors. With a clothes steamer, you can easily do this yourself, without having to wipe or wash the curtains. In this blog, we explain how both a compact handheld steamer and a professional (upright) clothes steamer can steam your curtains perfectly.
Why dry clean your curtains?
Curtains collect dust, smoke and odors over time. Steaming them regularly keeps them fresh and wrinkle-free. The great advantage of a clothes steamer is that you don't need an iron and can treat your curtains directly in place. The hot steam kills 99% of bacteria and makes your curtains look like new again.
Dry cleaning curtains is easy and requires little preparation. Follow these steps for perfect results:
Step 1: Fill the water reservoir of the steamer
- Use clean water and fill the reservoir of the hand steamer or professional steamer.
- Plug in and let the steamer warm up (about 20-30 seconds).
Step 2: Start steaming
- Keep the steam head pressed against the curtain. No need to leave space between them.
- Work from top to bottom in fluid motions.
- Lightly pull the curtain taut with your other hand for a smoother result. Using a steam glove is recommended.
Step 3: Pay extra attention to creases and odors
- Do your curtains have stubborn creases? Keep the steamer on that spot a little longer.
- To remove odors, steam slowly over the entire curtain.
Step 4: Let the curtains dry
- Make sure the curtains ventilate well, such as by opening a window.
- Within minutes, they will be completely dry and look fresh.
