Why use a laundry bag?
Some garments you prefer not to put in the washing machine, for example because the fabric is very fragile or pills quickly. Delicate fabrics such as silk, lace and clothing with embroidery are vulnerable in the washing machine. During washing, garments undergo a lot of movement and friction due to the turning and shaking of the drum, which can lead to wear, distortion or even damage.
By washing your clothes in a laundry bag, you create a protective barrier. This reduces the impact of friction, prevents fabrics from coming into contact with zippers or hooks, and helps colors stay radiant longer. A simple solution to keep your favorite garments looking great longer!
How do you use laundry bags properly?
Laundry bags are easy to use, but to get the best protection and cleanest results, follow these steps:
1. Choose the right size laundry bag
Use a laundry bag large enough so that garments can move loosely in it. A bag that is too full can cause clothes to not clean as well. You prefer to have several sizes in the house, for smaller items such as underwear, and a larger laundry bag for sweaters, etc.
Choose the following (common) laundry bag sizes:
- 25 x 30 (S)
- 30 x 40 cm (M)
- 40 x 50 cm (L)
- 60 x 60 cm (XL)
In our experience, an S is too small, and M and L are ideal. Size XL is mainly for bedding, for example.
2. Choose laundry bags with a "hidden zipper
When choosing a laundry bag, pay attention to the zipper. Preferably choose a laundry bag with a "hidden zipper," so that the zipper does not rub against other garments and damage them. This often distinguishes quality laundry bags from lesser quality varieties.
3. Sort your garments
Put delicate fabrics such as lingerie, bras, silks, sportswear and clothes with lace in a laundry bag. It is also better to put garments with zippers, buttons or hooks in a bag to prevent damage to other clothes.
4. Close the laundry bag tightly
Make sure the bag is tightly sealed to prevent clothing from falling out during washing. A sturdy closing mechanism, such as a zipper with a protective edge, is ideal for this.
5. Choose the right wash program
Use a mild wash program with low temperature and low rpm to minimize wear and tear. This not only helps keep clothes looking great longer, but also saves energy.
6. Can also be used in the dryer
For extra protection, you can also use your laundry bag in the dryer. This prevents delicate fabrics from getting too much heat and movement, reducing shrinkage and distortion.
7. These clothes are best washed in a laundry net or laundry bag
For delicate materials and fragile items, it is recommended to use a laundry net or laundry bag. Consider fabrics such as silk, wool, satin and lace. In addition, we recommend washing the following garments or items in a laundry net or laundry bag:
- items with embroidery;
- clothing with sequins;
- underwire bras;
- sports bras with hooks;
- lingerie;
- and socks.
8. No more stray socks
A laundry bag can also be very handy for small items of clothing, such as socks. Sometimes it seems like socks just disappear when you hang up the clean laundry: you really did put an even number in the washing machine, didn't you? If you put your socks in a laundry bag, you can be sure they won't get lost and you won't be left with incomplete pairs.
9. Laundry bag or laundry net: the difference
Although you both use a laundry bag and laundry net to protect your clothes, there is a slight difference between the two. For example, a laundry net has an open mesh structure, and a laundry bag is closable with a zipper, offering even more protection.

Wash with a laundry bag:
this is how to best protect your clothes! Fragile garments and delicate fabrics deserve extra care to preserve their quality and longevity. This is because the washing machine can damage the fabric with every wash and is quite rough on clothes, especially items made of silk, lace or with small embellishments. A laundry bag or laundry net protect your clothes from abrasion, damage and color fading.
