How to use | Laundry dryer balls

Laundry dryer balls: Grandmother's hack is popular again!

If you use dryer balls in the dryer, your clothes will be: faster drying, less wrinkled, softer and less static. Sounds great right? In this blog you can read more about the benefits-and the use-of these mythical sheep's wool dryerballs, which recently received more than 12,000 five-star Amazon reviews.

What are these wax balls made of?

Our dryer balls are made from Merino sheep wool, from sheep that come from New Zealand. The Merino sheep is one of the oldest and strongest breeds of sheep in the world. The solution which relieves both the sheep, the environment and your wallet is born: The STEAMRS dryer balls. The beautiful sheep's wool is not thrown away, but biologically cleaned and reused in a sustainable way. A great way not to let the beautiful wool go to waste!

The benefits of dryer-balls at a glance

There are several advantages to using dryer balls:

1. They act as natural fabric softener
2. Laundry dryer balls reduce drying time, thus saving energy
3. Ensures less wrinkles in your clothes
4. Removes static charge from your clothes
3. They last a giga long time: up to 1000+ dryings

For us, the fact that you save on plastic and chemicals is more than enough to make us never want to switch to fabric softener again.

How do I use dryer balls made from sheep's wool?

Included in STEAMR's durable cotton storage bag are 6 pieces of XL Sheep Wool dryer balls! 3 white, and 3 black balls.

1. At a full dryer: use 4-5 laundry balls
2. At a emptier dryer: use 2-3 laundry balls
3. It doesn't matter if you add the white or black balls to the clothes dryer, you can just mix the colors
4. Turn on the dryer on a shorter drying setting than you are normally used to
5. When you use the dryer balls for the first time, they may still give off some lint. After the first dry, the balls will no longer give off any lint!
6. You can spray the balls with some water under the tap, they will remove even more static from your laundry

Notice: The dryer balls may make some noise in the dryer, but many times less than plastic or rubber dryer balls.

How exactly do dryer balls work in the dryer?

1. More warm air circulation
To dry properly, the laundry contents you put in the dryer must be separated to allow warm air to circulate. The laundry balls clothe the laundry, so to speak, making it fly around more airily in the dryer drum. So if dryer balls are left between fabrics during the drying process, warmer air can flow much faster between the garments, and so the laundry dries significantly faster and the dryer does not have to run as long.

2. Wool softens fibers & removes static charge
Why wool dryer balls would replace fabric softener, this is because of the way the balls interact with fibers in linens and clothing. The wool balls move the fibers in a delicate way, making clothes feel softer as they dry.

In addition, the laundry is less static and comes out less wrinkled!
However, in case the static electricity is still present, make sure to spray a little water on the dryer balls before placing them in the dryer. This way you will increase the humidity in the dryer and you will remove any remaining static electricity.

3. Years of enjoyment from this purchase!

Another great facet of wool dryer balls is how long they last. While mileage can vary, some dryer balls can be used more than 1,000 times, which for most people can last up to more than 5 years! The only time you need to worry about replacing them is when you see the balls start to unravel.

Why choose wool dryer balls and not plastic/rubber?

Dryer balls can be made of different materials, such as plastic, rubber and wool. Those looking for a more eco-friendly alternative to fabric softener and dryer sheets often turn to wool dryer balls. Of course, if you do opt for sustainable, then plastic or rubber balls are better left out.

Moreover, wool balls are also faster and more efficient when it comes to drying loads of laundry thanks to the heat retained from the dryer, further increasing their drying ability.

Tip: Although using dryer balls is unscented (which can be good for some), it is quite easy to add a little fragrance if needed. Just apply some essential oils - such as lemon or lavender - to the balls. Should you like it, you can even spray a little perfume on them (by the way, don't do this on a wash with children's clothes).

Hopefully you got something out of these tips and will be able to use your fine laundry dryer balls from STEAMRS for years to come. Also, this wonderful little bag is a fantastic-and unique-gift to give to someone else. You are guaranteed to make someone very happy with this!
